2019 CALL FOR PAPERS

INTRODUCTION

Presenting the Ontario Disaster & Emergency Management Conference (DEMCON) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on October 8-9, 2019. DEMCON is the premier event addressing emergency management, providing a global perspective on current and emerging issues for emergency management professionals. The 2019 program will include an outstanding roster of speakers providing an excellent opportunity for training and networking. Presentations will cover disaster response and recovery, community resilience and climate change.

DEMCON 2019 will include 28 presentations over 2 days. The program will be of interest to CEMC’s, emergency social services responders, practitioners, researchers and decision makers from sectors including energy/utilities, finance/insurance, government, manufacturing, technology, telecommunications and transportation.

Up to 2 (two) submissions per individual will be accepted. Submissions must include a Title, Abstract, Learning Objectives, Summary, Biography, Bio Picture and Speaking Experience.

Submissions are reviewed by the Planning Committee comprised of members of the Canadian Red Cross, the Canadian Risk and Hazards Network Association, the International Association of Emergency Managers, the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management, the Ontario Association of Emergency Managers, and the Ontario Municipal Social Services Association. If you have knowledge you would like to share at DEMCON or know of someone who may be interested in presenting, please share this Call for Papers.

PROGRAM GOALS

Presentation submissions should align with one or more of the goals listed below. All sessions should offer value for conference delegates by providing content derived from real event experience, proven best practices, innovative approaches for emergency management, or validated research. 2019 goals include, but are not limited to:
  • Building resilient communities
  • Using collaboration as a strategy for improvement which may include developing public/private partnerships
  • Addressing today’s risk landscape, with a particular focus on such threats as extreme weather and other prominent issues
  • Demonstrating effective techniques for managing incidents and crises
  • Achieving optimum results while dealing with resource constraints
  • Planning and responding to individuals and families impacted by a disaster, including the unique needs of vulnerable populations

PROGRAM FORMAT

Taking the above Goals into consideration, presentation submissions should fit into the following format:
  • Concurrent Sessions (40-minute live presentation followed by 10 minutes of Q&A)
